Soccer plus school equals success for Turul
(DurhamRegion.com) - When John Brown returned to the coaching ranks in 2003 with the Oshawa Turul, he was focused on achieving greater success both on and off the field for his players.
Considering the previous team was ranked third in Ontario when he was done, that would be no small feat.
Well, seven years later, it's mission accomplished for Brown, who has watched the Turul 1992 girls' team finish as the second ranked team in the province and, more importantly, graduate 13 players onto post-secondary opportunities. >>>

Soccer boss responds to gun allegations
(Paul Attfield, Globe and Mail) - While every effort is made by soccer’s governing bodies to prevent incidents such as the gun threat alleged to have taken place last month during an under-13 game between the North Scarborough Bulldogs and Aurora Stingers, you cannot legislate for every eventuality.
“We have close to 400,000 people playing soccer here in Ontario, so that translates to almost 20,000 teams so to speak,” Ontario Soccer Association chief executive officer Guy Bradbury said Tuesday. “We play tens and tens of thousands of games and this is a very isolated incident. … Does it happen from time to time? Brantford Bobcats bring era to a close
(Tom Kennedy, Brant News) - The Brantford Bobcats have reached the end of an era.

While it will be a sad time for the girls when they hang up their cleats after so long playing together, coach Tennyson Ulysse said they managed to end the season on several strong notes.
“It’s been a very successful time with the girls,” Ulysse said. “But our winning doesn’t necessarily just happen on the field. The highlight for us has been the friendships they’ve developed and the fun they’ve had playing soccer.” >>>
(InsideToronto.com) - It's been a relatively quiet year for Toronto rep soccer teams in Ontario Cup competition.
The Ontario Cup is the prestigious provincial championship for youth club teams from U12 age division and up, along with a men's and women's division.
Most of the divisions will compete in their semifinal games over the Aug. 28 weekend. But of the 30 semifinal games on tap in the various divisions (26 youth and four adult divisions), Toronto's only representatives are three youth teams from North York and one men's team.
The men's team is Toronto Blackstar FC, which is slated to play A.E.K. London FC on Sunday, Aug. 29, 4:30 p.m. at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. >>>
