Draws the Order of the Day in the CSL

(CSL) - The four top teams ended Sunday games with draws as Serbian White Eagles and Brampton Lions tied 0-0, TFC Academy and Milltown FC ended 1-1 and York Region Shooters were held by North York Astros 1-1. Brantford Galaxy fared better, they defeated London City 2-1.

It was a well-played scoreless tie at Victoria Park where lead leading Serbian White Eagles failed to find the net for the second time over the weekend.

The 0-0 tie follows an upset 1-0 loss to North York Astros on Friday night, but despite picking up just a single point, Serbian Eagles remain on top of the CSL First Division with a slim one-point margin over York Region Shooters and TFC Academy.

Serbian Eagles now have a 9-2-7 WLT record for 33 points, while Brampton Lions continue to climb the table in search of a playoff spot, they are now tied for eighth position with a 6-8-5 record for 23 points. >>>

Lowly Astros Shock White Eagles

(CSL) - North York Astros upset league leading Serbian Eagles 1-0, York Region Shooters beat Portugal FC 3-2 and Brampton Lions moved closer to a playoff berth with a 5-1 victory over London City, three games in the CSL Friday.

Only the way in which the goal was scored could be considered more unexpected at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke.

With the Astros losing their last 10 games to plummet in the standings and top of the table Serbian White Eagles undefeated in 15, a win for North York could be seen as the oddity of the season.

But North York Astros did defeat Serbian White Eagles on a goal at 24 minutes, scored when Shawn Brown lobbed the ball from 35 yards past his own goalkeeper into his own net. >>>

CSL Clubs Kickoff Youth Development Program

(CSL) - The Canadian Soccer League is continuing its work to link promising young players to professional soccer and those interested should contact the nearest CSL club for further information.

Most of the current CSL clubs already provide professional academy-style training for youth through related programs or affiliated youth clubs.

The CSL has recently established minimum standards for programs offered to youth by its member clubs to ensure a standardized approach to delivering the highest quality training in CSL communities. These standards will continue to evolve as the CSL works with the CSA and OSA to develop an elite training system that will best service athlete development, as well as national/provincial team programs.  >>>
