OSU 97 Boys Force Robbie International Champions
RELEASE - The July long weekend gave OSU more to celebrate than just Canada Day. For the first time in club history the OSU Boys 97 Force won the tournament in the U13 boys category.
The Toronto tournament is the largest charity based soccer tournament in the world with all proceeds going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The weekend started with very hot weather but that didn’t stop the 97 boy’s Force team from opening the tournament with decisive wins in their preliminary round beating out Leaside Tigers 5-0, Waterloo Wolves 4-2 and drawing a tie with Dixie Athletics 0-0. The boys finished first in their group and advanced to the quarter finals where they once again battled the extreme heat and pulled off another win against London’s Nor’ west Fusion 3-1 with scoring coming from Kris K. and Dario C. The semifinals were next and the Windsor Nationals posed a greater threat to the boy’s advancement to the finals. The game was fought hard in the midfield and Windsor’s defense was piled in front of the net for most of the game. The sole goal came off a Kris T. free kick from about 25 yards out which was placed just over the wall and through the goalie’s hands giving OSU and 1-0 victory. The boy’s were off to the finals! The final game was set and the 97 Force would face the Pickering Soccer club. Although the boys had played 5 games in two days and were feeling the strain of the extreme heat and fatigue they were pumped to finish off the weekend with a win. With the first goal of the game coming in the first 5 minutes by Kris T. the boys were now poised to take and hold the lead. Another goal by Kris T. brought even more hope that the dream was closer but the Pickering team fought hard. The third goal by Dante C. on a great pass from Lucas T. was the final straw to break the other team’s spirit and left them looking around for answers on how to hold off this determined OSU team. One more goal by Kris T. and another by Matt C. was all that was needed to put an end to a great final game with OSU winning 5-0 and taking the Robbie Championship. |
